CORTLAND, NY

The Arts at Grace and the SUNY Cortland Department of Performing Arts are collaborating to bring a stellar musical event to the greater Cortland community. Join them to usher in the holiday season with a performance of the Handel's Messiah on Friday, December 5 at 7:30 PM or Sunday, December 7 at 3:00 PM at Grace and Holy Spirit Church, 13 Court Street. Singing will be SUNY Cortland's Choral Union, and fine quartet of young New York soloists. A remarkable professional orchestra drawn Central New York will also be featured. There is no charge for the event.

Soprano Sarah Shaiman is a junior musical theatre major at SUNY Cortland. Always immersed in music and theatre, Shaiman formally studied classical, jazz and musical theatre repertoire during high school. At Cortland she has had memorable roles in Candide, Wicked, Brigadoon, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Rockabye Hamlet, A Christmas Carol, and Spring Awakening.

Mezzo Soprano Allie Tamburello is a senior at Cortland completing a degree in Musical Theater. She has performed on the Cortland stage in many main stage musicals. In addition Tamburello has sung at some of New York City's well known cabaret and jazz clubs including The Metropolitan Room, The Duplex and Don't Tell Mama.

Tenor Nathaniel McEwen is a master's student in performance at the Eastman School of Music. While an undergraduate at Cornell University, he was tenor soloist in several major works. He also sang selections at a concert for university donors at Alice Tully Hall in New York City. At Eastman McEwen has been the tenor soloist with the Rochester Philharmonic, the Eastman Philharmonia, and the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra. He made his operatic debut in Eastman Opera Theatre's recent production of Britten's Albert Herring

Emmanuel Sikora is a native and current resident of Cortland. He holds a degree with a concentration in composition from Queens College (CUNY) Aaron Copland School of Music. He recently earned a Masters in Music Composition with a Certificate in College Teaching from Binghamton University. Sikora has been singing with the Choral Union since 2001

A graduate of Cornell University and the Peabody Conservatory of Music, Artistic Director David Neal has performed as bass-baritone soloist with many opera companies nationally and internationally. Neal is an Professor of Performing Arts at SUNY Cortland.

The Arts at Grace is a community outreach of Grace and Holy Spirit Church supported by many individuals, businesses, and foundations from the greater Cortland community.
